In this episode Gary Gray shares his background and experiences in intercollegiate athletics, including candid conversation about the state of Alaska’s severe budget crisis and the impacts on his program. 

Gray was named Director of Athletics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in September 2012, and assumed his full-time duties on Sept. 24, 2012.

He is the former Director of Athletics at Montana State University Billings. Gray is also the former Chair of the Department of Health and Physical Education, former Associate Dean in the College of Education and Human Services and former Director of the Employee Wellness Program at MSUB.

Gray was at MSU Billings from 1994 to 2012. Prior to that he directed the undergraduate and graduate programs in sport management at Iowa State University from 1987-1994. He went to Iowa State from Eastern Montana College, where he taught and coached from 1984-1987.

He received his B.P.E. degree from the University of New Brunswick (Canada), his M.S. degree from the University of Kentucky and his Ed. D. degree from the University of Oregon. His doctoral dissertation studied sport-related negligence lawsuits in school settings.
