During that time OCU has consistently ranked as one of the most successful NAIA athletic departments in the nation in terms of athletic and academic success.
During Abbott’s tenure, the cumulative grade point average for student-athletes at OCU has never been below a 3.0 (18 consecutive semesters). Many OCU student-athletes are recognized annually for their academic achievements. Abbott created the first chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, a national student athlete honor society, in the state of Oklahoma to recognize the academic achievements of OCU student-athletes.
Abbott serves as the chief development officer for OCU Athletics. Under his guidance, OCU has completed more than $14 million in athletic facility construction and renovation projects including the Ann Lacy Softball Stadium, the Devon Boathouse, the Knight Strength and Conditioning facility, the Jim Wade Athletic Office Suite and OCU Soccer and Baseball facility renovations among others. Abbott spearheads efforts of the Champions Club, OCU’s athletic booster club, and the department’s largest annual fundraising event, the Sports Spectacular dinner and auction.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tab][vc_tab title=”Conversation Contents ” tab_id=”1406348314-2-79372f-0cb3″][vc_column_text css_animation=”appear”]
